A Vietnamese precision equipment firm has struck a partnership deal with Ghana, aiming to significantly expand the West African country’s cashew processing capacity through the supply of advanced shelling and handling machinery.
Ghana ranks among the world’s largest producers of raw cashew nuts, yet a substantial share of its harvest is exported unprocessed. Local processing remains constrained by outdated equipment and limited technical know-how, meaning farmers capture only a fraction of the potential value. The new collaboration seeks to bridge this gap by introducing modern, automated processing lines designed to handle high volumes with reduced kernel breakage.
PSL Machinery, known for producing cassava and cashew processing equipment, will supply key machines including shelling, grading, and peeling units. A Fully Automatic Cashew Shelling Machine capable of separating shells from kernels at industrial speeds is expected to be a centerpiece of the installation. The partnership also covers training and after-sales support, ensuring sustained operational efficiency.
For Ghana, processing more nuts domestically could create jobs, boost export earnings from canned or bagged kernels, and reduce dependence on Asian intermediaries. For Vietnam, which already dominates global cashew processing, the deal opens a new channel for machinery exports and reinforces its reputation as a total solutions provider. The collaboration underscores a broader trend of South–South cooperation in agro-industrial development.
The partnership between PSL Machinery and Ghana reflects a strategic shift in the global cashew value chain, enabling African producing nations to capture more value locally through industrial processing. It also underscores Vietnam's growing influence as an exporter of food processing technology, beyond its traditional role as a cashew kernel processor.
